Strawberry Jam Recipes

There are many Strawberry Jam Recipes, but I always love to make this Strawberry Jam when cooking with kids.

We have great fun, planting out strawberry plants,we have them in the ground as well as in hanging baskets, then watching them grow, trying not too eat too many before we then harvest them and make a selection of Strawberry Recipes and of course our Strawberry Jam Recipes.

To make 5lb of Strawberry Jam you will need:-

3 1/2lb Strawberries, hulled
Juice of 1 Lemon
3lb Sugar

Remove the green stalks from the top of your strawberries and wh them, dry with kitchen paper.
Put the fruit and lemon juice in a preserving pan or heavy-based saucepan and simmer gently until the fruit is really soft.
Add sugar, stir until dissolved and boil rapidly until setting point is reached.
Allow to cool for 15-20 minutes.

Go to our Jam Recipes Page To check when your jam has reached setting point and also how to pot and cover your jam.

Strawberry Conserve
Strawberry Conserve is Jam made from Whole Fruit which is stewed in sugar. This is not a quick recipe but it is well worth the wait, once you have made this.

4lb Strawberries
4lb Sugar

Hull (remove the green stalks) and wash the strawberries, leave them whole.
Place in a large clean basin in layers with the sugar, cover and leave for 24 hours.
Pour into a pan, bring to the boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves, and boil rapidly for 5 minutes.
Return the mixture to the basin, cover and leave for further 48 hours.
Return it to the pan and boil rapidly until setting point is reached.
Cool before potting.

This recipe gives a very lightly set jam, with the whole fruit in a thick syrup, it is not practical to quote the amount of jam you could make as it varies according to the fruit. So I would have plenty of clean jam jars ready.
