Muesli Recipe

Muesli Breakfasts don't come more nutrient packed than this, the nuts and seed are full of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.

The oats and wheatgerm provide a constant source of energy and will stabilize the blood sugars, enabling your child to have the best start to the day.

You can also add fresh fruit and serve with yogurt or milk high in calcium.

This is a recipe which children can help to make, don't worry about the exact measurements, there maybe somethings you or the kids may not like so take it out and add something else.

Preparation Time 10 minutes

Cooking Time 10-15 minutes

50g Sunflower Seeds

50g Pumpkin Seeds

25g Linseed

50g Flaked Almonds

50g Hazelnuts (chopped)

450g Porridge Oats

50g Wheatgerm

75g Ready to eat Dried Apricots (finely chopped)

50g Dried Banana

50g Sultanas

50g Dried Cherries or Cranberries.

You will need 2 baking sheets for cooking on.

1.Sprinkle all the seeds and nuts on one of the baking sheets and the oats onto the other.

2.Cook in a preheated oven at 200c(400f) Gas 6 for 10-15 minutes or until lightly toasted, remove from the oven and cool.

3.Once cool put the nuts, seeds and oats in a large airtight container.

4.Add the wheatgerm and all the dried fruit, then either stir to mix or place the lid on and give it a GOOD SHAKE.

Store in a cool dry cupboard until required.

To serve, spoon about 5 tablespoons into a bowl top with fresh fruit and pour over some milk or add some natural yogurt.

You could also eat this as a snack with out the milk or yogurt as an alternative to crisps.
