Hosting a Kids Cooking Party

The key to Hosting A Kids Cooking Party is preparation, not only before the party but during as well. You will need to make sure that the cooking party is controlled and the can have fun in a safe environment.

Only choose a maximum of 3 items to cook, Starter, Main and Dessert, depending on the ages of the children or just 1 main if you feel it could take over the party and you the kids to play games too, or you are limited on time and space.

Always get help when hosting a kids cooking party... Don't be the only adult. Ask friends, family or parents of some of the children coming to the party.

Make sure you have everything you need prior to the party, ingredients, plates, napkins, aprons, rolling pins, bowls etc. You can either buy these to give as gifts to the children as goody bags after the party or as friends to loan you some for the party.

Things to do before the kids arrive

1. Prepare your ingredients, chop, peel and make everything you don't want the children to do. Place them in individual bowls for each child and place them at their work station.

2. Place hats and aprons at each work area for the kids ( you will generally use your kitchen table and I suggest that you use a disposable tablecloth.)

3. Put out any utensils that the kids made need, cookie cutters, rolling pins etc, or place them down the center of the table if the kids need to share them.

4. Pre heat your oven, or grill if needed.

When the Kids arrive

1. Introduce yourself or the person who will be doing the cooking. and if they don't know already explain that at your party you are going to be cooking together.

2. Explain to the children what they will be cooking. Share your rules of the kitchen ,Wash Hands, No Running in the kitchen... No licking fingers... Hats and Aprons must be worn....and that they may have to share.

3. To get the kids excited about cooking find out what their favorite foods is this will often break the ice if the kids don't really know you. Allow them to decorate their hats if you have time.

4. Explain and demonstrate what it is they are going to be cooking with you. Make it as simple as possible.

5. Allow the children to cook their meal, let them go at their own pace if you can remember this is meant to be Fun .

6. Place each child's prepared meal on it's own baking tray with their name on if possible or write their name on piece of parchment paper and place it on if not near it... you won't want tears if they get the wrong dinner.

7. You will need to place the kids meals in the oven to cook, let them go off and play some games while the food cooks and it will also give you time to prepare the table for eating.

Remember you still want to have fun even though you are Hosting a Kids Cooking Party.
